What is Timeline?
Timeline is a free daily web puzzle about historical chronology. Each day you get a set of undated historical events, and your task is to arrange them on a timeline in the correct order, from the oldest event to the newest. You do not need to know exact years; you only need a feel for which events came before which. Events are dragged onto the timeline or positioned with earlier/later controls, and a fresh numbered puzzle, such as Daily #118, is released every day. The events are drawn from a pool of 244 fact-checked historical happenings spanning 2560 BCE to 2026, so a single puzzle can mix ancient history with very recent events. Difficulty labels such as Easy and Regular indicate what to expect from a given day.
How Timeline works
- Goal
Arrange undated historical events on a timeline in correct chronological order, oldest to newest.
- Your moves
- Drag an event onto the timeline
- Use the earlier control to move an event back in time
- Use the later control to move an event forward in time
- Reading the feedback
- Events already fixed on the timeline
- These serve as anchors you must order the remaining events around.
- When a round ends
A round is complete when all events are placed in order from oldest to newest; a new numbered puzzle arrives daily.
Your first round
- Open the day's numbered puzzle and see the undated events waiting to be placed.
- Note any events already fixed on the timeline as reference points.
- Drag an event onto the timeline where you think it belongs.
- Use the earlier/later controls to adjust its position relative to neighbouring events.
- Continue until every event sits in chronological order from oldest to newest.
Easy to miss
- Events are shown without dates, so you judge order purely by historical knowledge.
- Some events may already be placed on the timeline as anchors.
- Difficulty labels such as Easy and Regular appear on the daily puzzles.
