What is FilmLink?
FilmLink gives you two films, a starting one and a target one, and asks you to connect them through the people who worked on both. Each move is a choice of a credited person on your current film, followed by a film that person also worked on. Every step counts as one link, and the goal is to reach the target film with the fewest links or the fastest time. Anyone on a film's credits is clickable, from the stars to the director to the composer, so obscure but well-connected crew members can be just as useful as famous leads. A new puzzle appears once a day, and every player gets the same pair of films. Beyond the daily puzzle there is Hard Mode with an extra rule, ranked multiplayer with leagues and a leaderboard, an archive of past puzzles, and a way to challenge a friend. It is free to play in a web browser, and you can play the daily puzzle as a guest or with an account.
How FilmLink works
- Goal
Reach the target film from the opening film through a chain of shared cast and crew, using as few links or as little time as possible.
- Your moves
- Pick a credited person on your current film
- Choose a film that person worked on
- Check your link count and time as you go
- Reading the feedback
- Link count
- How many person-to-film moves your chain has used so far.
- Time
- How long you have spent building the current chain.
- When a round ends
A round finishes when your chain reaches the target film; a new puzzle arrives once a day, with the same pair for everyone.
Your first round
- Start on the day's opening film.
- Pick a person credited on that film, such as a star, the director, or the composer.
- Choose a film that person also worked on; it becomes your current film and the move counts as one link.
- Repeat with people on each new film, watching your link count and time.
- Finish when one of your chosen films is the target film.
Easy to miss
- Everyone in the credits is clickable, including the director and composer, not just the famous faces.
- Every clickable credit you use counts as one link per move.
- The one-minute tutorial runs with no clock and no score, so it is safe to try before your first real attempt.
Is FilmLink for you?
- You enjoy movie trivia and know which actors or directors link films together.
- You like a shared daily puzzle you can compare with friends or the leaderboard.
- You want competitive modes, since ranked multiplayer and leagues are built in.
- You prefer puzzles that need no film knowledge, since chains depend on recognising credits.

A round, step by step
A checked example runs from The Dark Knight to Good Will Hunting in 4 links. Starting on The Dark Knight, the player picks Christian Bale, who is credited on that film, and chooses Ford v Ferrari as a film he worked on, making that the current film. From there they pick Matt Damon and move to Good Will Hunting, the target film. Each person-to-film step counts as one link, so the finished chain uses 4 links total.
