What is Yearly Daily?
Yearly Daily is a free web-based history guessing game built around the calendar. Each day it presents a lineup of real historical events that all occurred on the same calendar date — today's date — and your job is to name the exact year each one happened. The twist is in the scoring: rather than a simple right-or-wrong verdict, you start the day with 100 lives and lose 1 life for every year your guess is off. A near miss barely dents your total, while a wildly wrong century can be expensive. You work through the day's events one by one, and you win if you finish the whole lineup with at least 1 life still standing. Because every event shares the same date, the game has a distinctive rhythm: the month and day stay fixed, and only your sense of the years shifts. An archive of past puzzles is included, so there is more to explore than just today's set.
How Yearly Daily works
- Goal
Pin down the exact year of each real historical event in the day's lineup, all of which happened on the same calendar date.
- Your moves
- Enter a guessed year for the event shown
- Move on to the next event in the daily lineup
- Reading the feedback
- Lives lost
- You lose 1 life per year your guess is off, so the size of the loss shows how far away you were.
- When a round ends
A day is won by completing every event in the lineup with at least 1 life remaining; running out of lives first ends it as a loss. A new lineup arrives each day.
Your first round
- Open the day's lineup of historical events, all of which happened on today's calendar date.
- Read the first event and enter the year you believe it took place.
- Check your lives: the cost is 1 life per year your guess was off.
- Continue through the remaining events, keeping an eye on your remaining lives.
- Finish the full lineup with at least 1 life left to win the day.
Easy to miss
- Guesses are penalized by distance, not correctness alone — being a few years off is cheap, being decades off is costly.
- You only need 1 life left at the end to win, so a big early loss doesn't automatically end your day.
- All events in a lineup share the same calendar date; only the year varies.
