What is Color Flood: Odyssey?
Color Flood: Odyssey is a free web puzzle that reworks the flood-fill formula. Instead of coloring the entire board one shade, you are charting a route: flood tiles so that an unbroken path of sea (blue) runs from the top-left corner to Ithaca in the bottom-right, all before you exhaust the move budget (par). Each move, you pick a color and the top-left region plus connected same-color tiles flip to it, but you can only flip to colors already touching your region. The board includes reefs and monsters that never flood or join your region, and the same fixed daily map is served to every player. A new puzzle publishes at midnight US Eastern, and past puzzles can be revisited through an archive with a free account. An Odysseus theme runs through it, with narrated captain's dialogue you can enable or disable, and a colorblind mode marks terrain with shapes.
How Color Flood: Odyssey works
- Goal
Build one unbroken orthogonal path of sea tiles from the top-left corner to Ithaca in the bottom-right before the move budget (par) runs out.
- Your moves
- Flood the top-left region and connected same-color tiles by choosing a color touching your region
- Flip only to colors already adjacent to your region
- Undo a move to reverse it
- Toggle colorblind mode with shapes per terrain
- Enable or disable the captain's dialogue narration
- Reading the feedback
- Sea (blue) tiles
- Your growing path; it must connect the two corners orthogonally, since diagonals do not count.
- Par counter
- Your remaining move budget; running out without connecting the corners means you are Adrift.
- Reefs and monsters
- Blocked tiles that never flood or join your region.
- When a round ends
You win by connecting the two corners with sea before par runs out; running out without connecting is a loss (Adrift). A new puzzle publishes daily at midnight US Eastern.
Your first round
- Look over the fixed daily map, noting reefs and monsters that can never join your region.
- Check which colors touch your top-left region, since you can only flip to those.
- Flood a touching color to absorb tiles and grow the region toward Ithaca.
- Keep the region's blue intact, because the final move must be sea and losing all blue can leave you Stranded.
- Connect the corners with an orthogonal sea path within par to solve the board.
Easy to miss
- Only colors already touching your region are legal flips.
- Sea connects orthogonally only; diagonal adjacency does not count.
- The last move must be sea, so flooding away all blue can strand you.
- Both corners must be sea themselves; the rest of the board can be any color.
