Overview

What is Griddle?

Griddle is a free web word game where you arrange letter tiles on a board to form connected words and score as many points as possible. Each tile carries its own point value, and the board is dotted with colored bonus squares that raise tile values, multiply words, or add bonuses — and these effects stack with each other. You can rearrange tiles as much as you like before committing, so the game rewards experimenting with layouts rather than guessing under pressure. A new board is available each day, and a Random Board menu can serve up an unplayed board from the game's history. If you get stuck, Assistant mode can help you discover possible words.

The rule card

How Griddle works

  1. Goal

Build connected words from letter tiles on a daily board and score as many points as possible.

  2. Your moves
    • Drag and drop tiles to form connected words
    • Rearrange tiles freely, undo, or recall all tiles
    • Sort or shuffle the rack
    • Tap SUBMIT when letters are mostly used
    • Enter Assistant mode to discover possible words
  3. Reading the feedback
    Tile point values
Each tile is worth the points shown on it; blue tiles are worth more than the normal tile of that type.
    Red bonus squares
They multiply the points of all letters used in the same word.
    Yellow bonus squares
They add their bonus value to the base points of each tile in the same word or words.
Word bonus labels like +2x or x2
+2x adds to a final word multiplier applied once at the end; x2 multiplies the word's total even if already multiplied.
  4. When a round ends

A round finishes when you tap SUBMIT with the letters mostly used, locking in your words and their score; a new board arrives each day.

Step by step

Your first round

  1. Open the daily board and look over the letter tiles in your rack and the bonus squares on the board.
  2. Drag and drop tiles onto the board to form connected words, rearranging them as many times as you like.
  3. Use undo, recall-all, or rack sorting and shuffling if you want to rethink the layout.
  4. Optionally enter Assistant mode to discover possible words, or snapshot the board to compare layouts.
  5. When the letters are mostly used, tap SUBMIT to lock in your words and score the board.
Rules people overlook

Easy to miss

  • Bonuses stack, so overlapping colored squares can combine for much larger scores.
  • A blank tile is a SPACE, not a wildcard — it scores nothing but joins two shorter words into one longer word, and yellow bonuses still affect it.
  • A +2x word bonus adds to a final multiplier applied once at the end, while an x2 bonus multiplies the word's total even if it has already been multiplied.
  • You can move tiles as many times as you want before submitting, so there is no need to settle on a first layout.
