What is Crescent Solitaire?
Crescent Solitaire is a patience-style card game played in the browser. Your goal is to empty the crescent-shaped arrangement of piles by moving every card onto the foundations. What sets it apart is the dual foundation setup: one set of foundations builds upward by suit from aces to kings, while the other builds downward by suit from kings to aces. On the tableau, cards can be built either up or down by suit, with wrapping allowed so a king can sit on an ace and vice versa. Only one card can be moved at a time, and only the top card of each crescent pile is available, so the order in which you free cards matters. When you run out of useful moves, a limited number of shuffles can reshuffle the piles and give you a fresh chance. The game spans four levels, with the first three allowing empty tableau spaces to be filled with any card and the final level removing that flexibility.
How Crescent Solitaire works
- Goal
Move every card from the crescent piles onto the foundations, building up from aces and down from kings by suit.
- Your moves
- Move the top card of a crescent pile to a foundation or the tableau
- Build tableau piles up or down by suit
- Fill an empty tableau space with any card (first three levels)
- Use a shuffle when no moves remain
- When a round ends
A level is complete when all cards have been moved from the crescent piles onto the foundations; the game progresses through four levels in total.
Your first round
- Look over the crescent piles and check the top card of each one, since only those cards are playable.
- Move a top card onto a foundation if it continues an ace building up or a king building down by suit.
- Otherwise, place a card on the tableau, building up or down by suit with king-ace wrapping allowed.
- If an empty tableau space appears, fill it with any card while you are in one of the first three levels.
- When no useful moves remain, spend one of your limited shuffles to rearrange the piles.
Easy to miss
- Tableau building wraps around: a king can be placed on an ace and an ace on a king.
- Only the top card of each crescent pile is playable, so buried cards stay locked until the cards above them leave.
- The free-filling rule for empty tableau spaces disappears in the final level.
- Each move transfers exactly one card — there is no moving sequences of cards together.

Crescent Solitaire FAQ
Is Crescent Solitaire free to play?
Yes, the game is free and runs in a web browser, so you can play it without downloading anything.
How many cards can I move at a time?
Only one card can be moved at a time, and only the top card of each crescent pile is playable. This makes move ordering an important part of the game.
How do the foundations work in Crescent Solitaire?
There are two kinds of foundations. One set builds up by suit from aces to kings, and the other builds down by suit from kings to aces.
What happens when I get stuck with no moves?
You can use a shuffle to rearrange the piles. Shuffles are limited in number, so it is worth saving them for situations where no other moves remain.
How many levels are there and how do they differ?
There are four levels. In the first three, empty tableau spaces can be filled with any card; in the final level, they cannot, which makes the ending stricter.
